Free at Last!
It finally happened. The day finally came. Kendall now has a right hand AND a left hand. We took her back into the doctor on Thursday and they sawed that nasty cast off. And then sent it home with us...??? Gross. But Kendall wants to keep it for a while and I guess she's earned that much. She did such a great job with her cast. Her left arm got a little itchy a few times, but luckily her daddy (a seasoned cast vet!) taught her how to gently itch it with a scratching stick and we got through that without too much of a problem. I was expecting her to whine or complain about it a whole lot more, but we never really heard anything of the sort. Not even when she had to relearn all her writing with her right hand. Turns out we now have an ambidextrous little girl that has trouble straightening her left arm all the way and still walks around with it in cast position. It is slowly loosening up and now we just have to try and get her to slow down long enough to let it heal before she accidentally breaks it again. That means no gymnastics or P.E. for a few weeks, which are pretty much her two favorite things, but I'm sure she'll manage. One of the best parts is she can wear anything she wants to now without worrying about whether or not it can fit over her gigantic unbending arm. Way to go Kendall - you have successfully made it through a difficult four weeks with so much happiness and optimism reminding all of us of the sweet angel you are and encouraging us to bear our burdens and sufferings with a little more class. How happy we are that you are a part of our family - now stop jumping off your bed!!
